History

The historical City of Burlington was founded in 1677, and was once the capital of West Jersey. Burlington County offers tours of the underground railroad, quaker meeting houses, historic sites on the state and national registers and one-room schoolhouses. Mount Holly was established as a small industrial community along the Rancocas River and became a social and commercial center. It predates the American Revolution by nearly 60 years. Farmers Bank was established in 1814. It is the second oldest in New Jersey and remains in use today. Burlington County's historic Court House in Mount Holly was built in 1796.
